Providing Support for ONE OF OUR OWN

By Kristi Ronyak

OSHA reports there are well over 5,000 work site deaths each year in the United States, with over 20% of those being in the construction industry. This is approximately 3.5 construction workers killed per day in the United States.

Construction Angels, Inc. is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization that provides immediate financial assistance and grief counseling to the children (19 years & younger) and spouse left behind when a construction worker is involved in a work-related fatality. We offer construction scholarship opportunities to qualified applicants, and additional scholarships to surviving children of a fallen worker.

The charity began in Lighthouse Point, Florida in 2011 and currently supports families in 31 states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IA, KS, KY, MD, MI, MO, MT, NJ, NC, NE, NV, OH, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, WY. Our goal is to be in all 50 states by 2030.

Our VISION is to be the immediate source of support to construction families when the unthinkable happens. We believe in the importance of promoting family values, job site safety awareness, continued education, and the continued support for ‘ONE OF OUR OWN’.

How does our charity help these families of fallen workers with your support? Construction Angels provides $8,000 to the spouse and/or children (19 years and younger); $3,000 in Angel Support (if the worker does not have a spouse/children); and up to $1,000 in Grief Counseling to the family and/or company employees.

We also provide three types of scholarships. The first type is supporting children who have lost a parent due to a construction fatality. They can apply for any career path of their choice. Second, to retain our kids in the construction industry, children seeking a construction education (in the states we are currently located in) can also apply each year. And finally, any educational organizations in our industry that need additional financial support can apply. All applications should be submitted by July 12th, 2024, for consideration. More information on these scholarships can be found on our website.

Most of our funds we distribute through our Family Aid, Counseling and Scholarships Programs are generated from events that are held in various locations throughout the United States. Our next fundraiser is coming up April 4th just outside of Nashville, TN hosted by Arcosa Aggregates, and co-chaired by Werk-Brau.

There are many ways to get involved. We have State and National Sponsorships available on our website, or you can make a one-time donation, or you can host an event.
