Today’s business world can be fun, tough, challenging and very rewarding. And this can all happen in the same week. Why do we even start our own business these days? It could be a dream we’ve always had for financial independence, your personal flexibility and/or freedom, a passion for the industry or maybe you just wanted to build something meaningful. Now you’re in business, growing and doing well. What’s next? We’ve all heard the old saying, “if you’re not growing your business, you’re stagnant or even worse, declining in business.”
If you’re currently in the asphalt paving business, doing well and growing, and you want to continue to grow, let’s look at some ways you could do this within the asphalt world. You could grow on the dirt or excavation side of the asphalt jobs by doing the rough and fine grading. You could get into the curb and gutter part that most asphalt paving jobsites need. You could grow more on the trucking side of this business, buying a fleet of dump trucks or maybe even offering a lowbed hauling equipment service for your market. While most of these ideas will help you grow, it also demands a lot of capital and people to make them successful.
Let’s say you don’t want to invest so much of your money or capital, or don’t want to be hiring a bunch of new employees for your growth. What about line striping and marking, sealcoating or offering full property maintenance to name a few? Or how about asphalt maintenance and a pothole repair business for your growth? You’re already doing asphalt paving of driveways, parking lots and maybe roads. Asphalt repairs can be handled very simply by just adding a new Hotbox to your fleet. Return on investment for doing asphalt repair and maintenance work can be very profitable – the reason being that in most markets, everyone wants to be paving, but how many companies are actually out promoting asphalt repair and maintenance work or even pothole repairs in your market? My guess is it’s 10 paving companies to every one asphalt repair company in most markets. Less competition should equal more margin or profit overall.
With an asphalt Hotbox, you can transport either hot mix year-round or cold mix in the off season. Does your company recycle asphalt? Here’s a way to use this reclaimed material. Does your market have potholes and utility cuts that need this type of service? Of course, every market has these opportunities. A Hotbox is the tool that brings you unmatched versatility and reliability to be in this business tomorrow. If you could grow your business by doing pothole repair work for your local towns or cities, and if you live in the freeze-and-thaw areas of the world, you’ll have more potholes then most. If you don’t currently own an asphalt Hotbox, why not? If you’ve never seen a Hotbox in action, check out the video of one working on the LeeBoy website.
As a professional asphalt business, always stay on top of and know your market, build strong relationships, prioritize your customers’ experience and be able to innovate and adapt when needed. If growing your business is the next step, looking at all your options and figuring out what fits your market best will make this decision your next success story for your business. Success isn’t a destination but a journey of continuous learning and improvement. We look forward to seeing all of you achieve success with your future growth.
