One of the most remarkable things about the construction industry is not just the roads, bridges, buildings, and infrastructure we create—it’s the people behind them. Throughout my travels across the United States, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible generosity, compassion, and commitment that define our industry.
Construction professionals are constantly giving back. They share their knowledge and experience with younger generations, mentor future leaders, and pass the baton to ensure our industry continues to thrive. Companies donate materials, equipment, labor, and financial resources to strengthen the communities where they live and work. In fact, it seems that nearly every charitable organization across the country has been touched by the support of a construction company or an individual working in our industry.
What inspires me most is how our industry responds when adversity strikes. When a construction worker suffers a work-related fatality, faces a serious illness such as cancer, or experiences a life-changing hardship, people immediately step forward to help. Competitors become teammates.
Colleagues become family. Companies, employees, vendors, and industry partners unite to provide support, raise funds, and ensure no family faces tragedy alone.
This spirit of service reflects the values that make construction special. We are builders—not only of projects, but of relationships, communities, and opportunities. We understand the importance of hard work, sacrifice, and looking out for one another.
I commend the men and women of the construction industry who work tirelessly every day to build our nation, support their families, and strengthen their communities. Your generosity and dedication extend far beyond the jobsite. The structures we build may stand for generations, but the impact of your kindness and compassion will leave an even greater legacy.
As an industry, we should be proud not only of what we build, but of who we are.
A recent experience reminded me just how powerful generosity and innovation can be when combined with a desire to help others. Not long ago, a gentleman connected with me on LinkedIn and shared his passion for improving mental health outcomes. During a lengthy phone conversation while I was waiting for a flight, we discussed the mission of Construction Angels and one of the greatest challenges we have faced since our inception: finding the families of construction workers who have suffered a work-related fatality so we can provide immediate financial assistance and grief counseling.
By the time my flight landed, he had already created an AI-driven solution designed to solve that challenge. I was truly amazed. Not only did he identify a problem, but he immediately took action to help solve it. He never asked for compensation, never expected recognition, and never sent us an invoice for something that could save our organization thousands of dollars and countless hours for years to come.
His actions serve as a powerful reminder of the character that exists within our industry and among those who support it. He saw a need, used his talents to make a difference, and gave his time and expertise simply because he wanted to help. In a world where people often ask, “What’s in it for me?” he instead asked, “How can I help?” That selfless act of kindness is a perfect example of the generosity, innovation, and compassion that continue to inspire me every day.
As AI becomes an increasingly important tool, I am grateful for those who are willing to use their talents to help organizations like ours. Every hour saved and every dollar preserved allows Construction Angels to direct more of its limited resources where they matter most—supporting the families we serve.
